5 tips for getting sick less

5 tips om niet meer ziek te worden

Never get sick again, it almost sounds like a utopia. But is it that too? Can the human body be equipped so that it is no longer susceptible to infections or viruses?

In the ideal world that is indeed possible, but unfortunately those ideal scenarios do not always occur. We are happy to give you 5 tips to arm your body as well as possible to never get sick again.

#1 Take care of your intestinal flora

A good intestinal flora is not only important for a balanced lifestyle, but also radiates towards your own mental resilience. You get a good intestinal flora by including enough healthy bacteria in your diet. These bacteria are also called probiotics.

What are probiotics?

Probiotics are living microorganisms that you absorb through fermented foods such as sauerkraut, yogurt, kefir or in the form of nutritional supplements.

More and more studies indicate that it is important for health to have an intestinal flora that is in balance.

#2 Get enough sleep

An essential part of a strong and armed body is getting enough sleep. Not immediately a surprise, but not always easy to achieve. Because even a little bit less sleep already has an effect on your immune system. And that immune system is precisely what is needed to fight those germs.

A study in which 153 healthy men and women between the ages of 21 and 55 took part, shows that those who slept less than 7 hours were almost 3 times more likely to catch a cold than those who slept for 8 hours (source).

#3 Avoid stress

Everyone has to deal with stress from time to time. At work, in your spare time or during family life. Reducing your stress level to 0 is a hopeless task. Nevertheless, you do as much as possible to avoid stress. Doesn't that work? Then try to understand your stressful moments.

Meditation is a good way to reduce stress on the one hand, but also to understand your stress moments on the other.

#4 Move, move, move

It cannot be said enough, exercise is an excellent way to increase your resistance and thus avoid disease.

The guidelines of the Flemish Institute for Healthy Living are clear for persons between 18 and 64 years:

Movements of moderate intensity: at least 150 minutes per week. Don't try to do this in one day because exercise every day is best.

High intensity movements: at least 75 minutes per week. Again, it is best to divide this into several days.

Combination of moderate and high intensity: at least 150 minutes per week. A mix is always good. Important to know: are you doing a minute of high intensity? Then it counts double!

#5 Have a balanced diet

A balanced diet is the foundation of a healthy body. Drinking enough water, taking in the right nutrients and limiting alcohol are the main components.

Again, the Flemish Institute for Healthy Living prescribes the guideline to eat at least 250 g of fruit per day. That roughly corresponds to two pieces of fruit, depending on the type of fruit of course.

Unfortunately, such a balanced diet is not always feasible for many people. At that point it makes sense to see if you can supplement your lifestyle with nutritional supplements, preferably of natural origin. Spirulina is one of the superfoods that is useful to support your body. It is packed with useful vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants. It is therefore not called the green gold of nature for nothing!

Conclusion

A strong body that is armed against diseases and viruses is not as unrealistic as you think. Will I really never get sick again? No, we cannot promise that. But if you follow the above tips, the chance of getting sick will decrease significantly.
